A bassist, composer and arranger, musical director, and mentor to countless son and salsa ensembles and vocalists. Hailing from the vibrant heart of Santiago de Cuba, Pedro Luis emerged as a pioneer among a new generation of son musicians, his artistry shaped by the tutelage of the venerable Vieja Trova Santiaguera, including luminaries like Maduro and Compay Segundo.
In 1995, Pedro Luis cast anchor in the Netherlands, where he founded the soulful son group Saoco and became an integral part of Rumbatá. His contributions to the global music scene are myriad, encompassing collaborations with luminaries such as Issac Delgado, Laura Figi, Mayito van Los Van Van, and Estrella Acosta.
Most recently, he joined forces with the renowned Carel Kraayenhof and the Metropool Orchestra for the enchanting production ‘Memorias de Cuba,’ a testament to his enduring connection to his Cuban roots and formed the band Pedro Luis y su Caney to continue with his legacy into the music industry.
